As long as the ‘concept’ was right, Brendan Fraser would be interested in a fourth The Mummy film. Variety spoke with the actor about his upcoming film, The Whale, and he admitted he’d be open to revisiting the films that launched his career.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored a blistering 15 percent, a stark contrast to Fraser’s fan-favorite of the same name, which earned 61 percent. Variety reports that Cruise’s version of The Mummy lacks the magic ingredient that turned it into Mummy-mania.

A legacy sequel to The Mummy series would be a welcome development for fans of the original trilogy. Hollywood Reporter reports that Universal almost made a fourth Mummy film following Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but instead made 2017’s ill-received reboot with Tom Cruise.

According to a 2019 article, Universal opted not to move forward with a fourth film involving the O’Connells facing off against Aztec mummies in South America with Antonio Banderas as the villain instead. This canned fourth installment of the bonkers series was the subject of a petition last year so fingers crossed it happens.
