According to Brendan Fraiser, reuniting with Michelle Yeoh for The Mummy 4 would be “fun.”

Brendan Fraser says he’d love to reunite with Michelle Yeoh for The Mummy 4. The Mummy, released in 1999, shot Fraser to stardom. Later, he returned for two sequels, including 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, in which Yeoh appeared.

Given how high Brendan Fraiser is now riding thanks to his Oscar nomination for The Whale, it’s no surprise that the call is getting louder for The Mummy to finally get another sequel.

According to Fraser, The Mummy 4 would be a good fit for him. During an interview with The Awardist podcast (via EW), Fraser expressed excitement about the possibility of reuniting with fellow Oscar nominee Yeoh. This is what he had to say:

“Sounds like fun. I’m always looking for a job. If anyone’s got the right conceit. I think I’ve never been as famous and never as unsalaried at the moment as I am right now. So spread the word.”

It was interesting to note that Universal once had an idea for The Mummy 4. Banderas would have played the villain alongside Fraser’s returning character in The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec. As Universal pivoted to its Dark Universe concept, The Mummy was rebooted with Tom Cruise in the lead. The Cruise-led Mummy was a notorious flop, and the Dark Universe was scrapped, leaving the door open for new Mummy ideas.

There’s no doubt Universal believes there’s value in The Mummy, so it seems likely they’ll take another stab at the property in the future since it was once so gung-ho about making it a centerpiece of its Dark Universe. This would be a perfect time to take that stab, given how hot Brendan Fraiser is, and how much fans want The Mummy 4. In order for another Mummy to make sense, someone must come up with the right “conceit,” as Fraser pointed out in his new comments.

There is no clear premise for The Mummy 4, beyond making sure it’s nothing like the Cruise-led Mummy. The Mummy 3 would benefit from Yeoh’s return, though explanations would have to be arranged for how his character could return after dying in The Mummy 3.
