Bad Boys 4 is finally in the works.

If the prestige fare didn’t make you forgive Will Smith, how about another classic action-comedy blockbuster? As a result of the pre-pandemic success of the third film, Bad Boys For Life, Smith and co-star Martin Lawrence announced they would return to the franchise for a fourth installment.

In what has become his typical way of breaking news, Smith brought the audience along for a ride-along at Lawrence’s house in a breathless first-person video. As he turns on “Shake Ya Tailfeather” from the Bad Boys II soundtrack, Smith, one of the biggest blockbuster stars of all time, says: “That’s my jawn.”. “I wish I were you, not knowing what I’m about to show you! ”

Once Lawrence answers the door, it’s pretty clear what he’s going to show us. In spite of the fact that they’ve already done Bad Boys For Life, the pair clarify right off the bat that this will be Bad Boys 4. The momentum of Bad Boys 4 will not be slowed by this unfortunate shortsightedness. (Bad Boys forever? Bad Boys for good?)

According to Deadline, the latest installment will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (of Batgirl fame) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith for Westbrook, Doug Belgrad, and Chad Oman with executive producers Martin Lawrence, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman, and Jon Mone.

In a calculated move for his post-[redacted controversy] career, Smith’s return to the fan-favorite nostalgia-fest (whose third film had the second-best MLK weekend at the box office) can’t be ignored. That incident occurred before Bad Boys 4, and Lawrence previously said Smith’s scandal wouldn’t prevent the Bad Boys from reuniting. Seeing as Emancipation premiered on streaming—and failed to generate awards buzz for Apple TV+—it remains to be seen whether audiences will return to theaters to see Smith in action. It seems like Bad Boys is a good bet.
