Aladdin 2 what we know so far

When Aladdin was released as a live-action remake in 2019, it was a smash hit, and there are already real conversations about a sequel.

The live-action remake of Aladdin is easily Disney‘s most successful. It was one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, easily crossing the $1 billion mark, as well as injecting some freshness into the story, unlike some of the other remakes (like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast). In the years since the Disney movie was released, there have been discussions about a sequel.

The release date of Aladdin 2 is unknown as of April 2023. Despite the fact that Aladdin 2 was in active development, Mena Massoud in March 2023 said that it was “very unlikely” that the film would still be produced. Currently, Disney hasn’t confirmed that, so just wait for some official announcements.

It might be assumed that Aladdin 2 will follow the same story as the animated movies and will be an adaptation of The Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves. There will, however, be no direct adaptation of either of these in Aladdin 2. The story will be new, and will not be based on previous Aladdin sequels, even if it borrows elements from the movies. The direction it will take is unknown, but we know what it won’t be.

After the 2022 Oscars slap, it was reported that Will Smith‘s Genie (formerly portrayed by Robin Williams) would get more spotlight and an expanded role. A sequel to Aladdin seems highly likely, according to director Guy Ritchie.

“I’d very much like to,” Ritchie admitted.

“I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed that experience. It was a great experience. That whole Disney thing, as you can imagine, is such a professional outfit. Just from that perspective, it was so much fun.

“I would very much like to, we’ll wait and see. We have been kicking some ideas around for some time now, but it’d be great to do, it would be great to go back there.”

Hercules, meanwhile, will be directed by Ritchie, who stays with the Disney franchise for another adapation.
