The Fraserenaissance or the Brenaissance is without a doubt Brendan Fraser’s return to Hollywood.

Taking on the role of the film’s main villain, Firefly, the beloved actor is making a long-awaited return following a lengthy hiatus.

DC has announced that Fraser will be appearing in the role alongside Leslie Grace, who will play Barbara Gordon, daughter of legendary Gotham City police commissioner Jim Gordon.

Fraser’s Firefly is the first live-action portrayal of the comic book villain, whose only other appearances on TV are in Arrow and Gotham.

DC is set to be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah – best known for directing Bad Boys for Life – with JK Simmons possibly reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon.

The news caps off a busy 2021 for Fraser, who had previously been cast in two major movies: Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, in which he will appear with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Fraser’s most recent film appearance was in Steven Soderbergh’s crime drama No Sudden Move.

Fraser explained in 2018 that after being allegedly sexually assaulted in 2003, he had been suffering from depression and physical health issues.
