A nonstop production calendar filled with action-packed projects shows Arnold Schwarzenegger still has plenty of fight left for audiences despite his 75th birthday. He maintains those iconic muscles by training daily to maintain his massive appeal as the former champion bodybuilder who launched franchises like Terminator and Predator.
On the set of his Netflix spy series FUBAR, Schwarzenegger talked about his commitment to staying on top of his game, his illustrious career as a bodybuilder and movie star, and how 40 years after the first Conan film launched his Hollywood career, he still dreams of making another.

Originally released 40 years ago, Conan the Barbarian has become a classic. Is it easy to train for a project like that?
Two months after I won Mr. Olympia for the seventh time in Sydney, Australia, we’re on set filming Conan the Barbarian. In the competition, the director, John Milius, told me he wanted me to be “less cut” since he didn’t think it looked natural. To become more rounded, I changed the way I trained and my diet for two months.I wished to look like a man who had earned his muscles through hard work in the world, rather than through very specific, organized training in the gym. The adjustments I needed to make were made. I looked exactly the way Milius wanted and he was very happy. When I did the sequel to Conan, the director Richard Fleischer told me he still wanted me to bulk up, but be more defined. I did that, and I got much more defined than I was in the first.
A new Conan the Barbarian film is rumored, with you returning to the character you created. What are your thoughts on that?

We should do a Conan movie that is similar to Unforgiven, where we return to Conan, now old and sitting on his throne for 40 years. Now he is one of those kings and leaders he despised as a child. It’s the same trap he’s fallen into. He has become complacent and fat. Currently, he is eating too much food and enjoying all the women around him. He’s an old man who doesn’t have any value.
As he feels his life slipping away, being taken away from him, he must get his life back together-this is his reluctant comeback story. It’s a great story, and Milius had already written a fantastic script about it. Other great writers and directors have expressed interest in putting it together, but we don’t own the rights. There are some talks with Netflix, and I know a lot of people there since I’m currently working with them. It would be best to get everyone in a room together so we can move forward. Among the 40-plus movies I’ve done, certain characters have become fans favorites. One of them is Conan.
