The two Irish superstars Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal will star in “Foe”, one veteran and one young gun. A science fiction novel of the same name by Iain Reid will be adapted by the duo and directed by Gareth Davis. Production will begin in Australia in January.

David Davis told Deadline: “I read ‘Foe’ and could not put it down. It’s incredibly suspenseful, very moving and deals with sci-fi in a very grounding way that examines where we are heading as a society in a profound way.

I could not have been moved by anything more powerful than this love story, this story of self-determination, of fighting for the things that matter most, and reminding audiences that the way we treat one another is exactly how we should treat all living things.

It’s the story of a young married couple, Junior (Mescal) and Hen (Ronan), who live a solitary life on their farm in a near future where environmental decay is destroying the planet. One night, Hen is informed by Terrance (Stanfield) that Junior has been selected to travel to a large, experimental space station orbiting Earth, without the opportunity to say goodbye.
