It’s official: Silent Hill 2 is coming! There has long been a desire among fans of the horror video game series for a sequel to the 2006 movie. They’re getting it now.

Return to Silent Hill, the movie based on the video game sequel, has officially been confirmed. The film’s director Christophe Gans spoke to game developer Konami about his plans for the movie in a six-minute video that showed concept art for the film. “The film tells the story of a young guy coming back to Silent Hill, where he has known a great love and what he’s going to find is a pure nightmare,” Gans said.

“In the first Silent Hill, we were exploring a world. The world of this small town, completing closing into the mist. It was like being trapped in The Twilight Zone. But in the second game, the creator of the game have changed the rules.

“So we’re basically going back to Silent Hill, the same town, but we were looking at this strange world and tell the point of the view of the hero we were playing.” According to Gans, “it’s more about psychological horror even if we’re going to see the same creatures and terror sequences again.”.

Gans said that the first film was a hit with fans of the Silent Hill video game because they felt that he was one of them – a fan. He went on to say that “everything starts with respect” for the source material of his film.

His “major goal” for the upcoming film is to redesign the classic Silent Hill monster – Pyramid Head. Sean Bean’s creature will return in the sequel, but fans will also get to see plenty of new things not found in the original. Aside from being faithful to the spirit of the video games, Victor Hadida said the film will also feature a new modernity, which is necessary since the last film was 15 years ago.

Hadida explained that Christophe had a clear idea of what he wanted in this adaptation: modern, but also very true to the video game. We also respect the wishes of the authors, producers, and Konami with this adaptation. “Christophe is really somebody that respects the work that has been done, but that also has his own vision.”

In addition to adapting the first video game, the original Silent Hill movie also contained elements from the second, third, and fourth video games. Despite a low Rotten Tomatoes score of 31%, it was successful among fans.
