Can you smell what the rock is cooking?

Mr Johnson has come a long way from a tragic NFL career that ended too soon, to the gleaming lights of the WWE doing rock bottom after rock bottom. And If you think he should have stayed there …… ‘IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!!’

His journey to becoming one of the most bankable movie stars has been undeniable. Some have donned him the WWE franchise saviour. However, what are Dwayne Johnson’s very best movies? You might think it wouldn’t be so hard to narrow them down to 7, but you’d be surprised. From action and comedies, to kids films, to sports pictures, Dwayne Johnson is always finding new ways to excite and surprise viewer’s. Here are The Rock’s 7 best movies.

7. John Matthews (Snitch)

Dwayne Johnson 7 Greatest Performances

“Snitch” is an action film with guns blazing, but it’s also a serious character drama.  The father of an arrested teen (Johnson) offers to become a snitch in exchange for his son’s reduced sentence after his son is caught in a sting operation and sent to prison, thanks to minimum sentencing laws. While Johnson is best known for his action comedies, he shows he has some serious dramatic chops here.

6. Beck (The Rundown/Welcome To The Jungle)

Yes, I am a big fan of this movie, and yeah, it falls into the nostalgic rose-tinted glasses category. Having said that, this was one of the first movies that I got to see unsupervised with my friends, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

The Rocks add humour and balance to the action. Johnson played a bounty hunter who kicks a lot of ass but also gets kicked in the ass a lot in this early work. Dwayne Johnson was definitely out of his comfort zone in the jungle at the time because of the setting of Brazil.

However, the big gun battle at the climax makes The Rundown a Dwayne Johnson movie for the ages. Walking slowly while being shot at, kicking boards down, sending people to their deaths with cheesy one-liner. For the most part, Dwayne Johnson’s debut was a success and definitely had people sitting up and saying perhaps there’s something to this… “Rock fellow”.

5. Bob Stone (Central Intelligence)

“Saving the world takes a big Johnson and a little Hart.” …. And that friends is what you get bringing the surprising comic duo together.

In the film, Johnson plays an overweight loser who later becomes a CIA agent. The film proves that Dwayne Johnson isn’t taking himself seriously at all, in fact Kevin Hart is actually having the most fun as the straight laced serious agent. Johnson can now spread his wings and play the goof he was born to be.

Definitely a movie you will want to watch time and time again, it’s fun and light with many laugh out loud moments. You can really tell that Dwayne is having fun with this role, and when the Rock has a good time, we all do too.

4. Paul Doyle (Pain and Gain)

Not only is this one of the Rock’s best movies, but also one of Michael Bay’s. It’s also possible the funniest candidate in this list.

Dwayne Johnson plays an ex-convict who has found Jesus and doesn’t want to harm anyone with his massive muscles. In the movie, Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie’s characters hatch a scheme to kidnap and rob a rich guy (Tony Shalhoub from Monk). It’s The Rock’s downward spiral back to his old criminal ways in the second half of the film.

Through the thick of ridiculousness, this highly jacked farce is a delight to watch!

3. Spencer (Jumanji)

I like most humble mortals when the very first trailer dropped WE ARE REBOOTING/SEQUEL JUMANJI!! I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, yawn and dismiss it, that is until I saw it.

The movies shouldn’t work, but they do, and while the original is considered the O.G. and remains the top of the heap, we think the new take is terrific. As the avatar of a nerd transformed into a stud in a video game, Dwayne Johnson plays second fiddle while still being the hero. This takes tremendous skill. Despite his ridiculousness, he’s a true badass in this movie.

His ability to make us believe he’s a real geek in the outside world is what sells it. Even more impressive is his performance as Danny DeVito in Jumanji: The Next Level. Movies like these have legs, and I’m sure they’ll continue to walk for years to come!

2. MAUI (Moana)

The second best Disney musical is debatably this one. The story is about a young woman who is drawn to the ocean after a selfish demigod (our boy) named Maui steals the ocean’s heart.

Hearing my nephew’s face light up when he sings “you’re welcome” holds a special place in my heart. The Rock’s singing is the reason anyone with a heart will never get tired of Moana, and it’s all because he has a great voice.

Moana may not seem like your typical Dwayne Johnson movie, but The Rock is all over this movie. It has everything – a Polynesian backstory, a fun vibe, and Dwayne Johnson’s personality. Maui even raises the People’s eyebrows in big number “You’re Welcome” Moana would be a Dwayne Johnson classic but… our number one pick is just too good!

1. Hobbs (Fast & Furious)

Plot?!  The Rock, fast cars, and explosions smulders and flexes. If you name anything that should be in a great Rock movie then this is the one.

The Rock is big and bodacious and is allowed to be as big and bodacious as he wants to be in the movie. He excels in these movies due to his wrestling roots. Jason Statham’s character, Shaw, hears him yelling at him as if he’s about to challenge him for the title belt, and he even gives him a Rock Bottom!

Perhaps there have been some hairy moments or… with these two lads ‘hairless’ moments with Vin Diesel, the badassery one upmanship is sublime. It doesn’t get much better than this if you are a fan of The Rock.
