The Mummy reboot is finally starting to take shape, it’s looking like directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the long-awaited movie. Dwayne Johnson will also rumored to return, though we are not sure if he will return as the Scorpion King. The Mummy reboot will also include Rachel Weisz, according to our trusted sources.
The Mummy reboot
Oscar winner Brendan Fraser has on several occasions spoken of his desire to return as Rick O’Connell and it now seems Rachel Weisz is also keen to return and be part of The Mummy reboot, so we’re betting the entire O’Connell family will be back together for another whirlwind action/adventure where something is dug up that should not have been dug up. Since the late 1990s, a lot of classic Hollywood reboots have been made, including a reboot of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise which was a massive box office flop. Its predecessors had charm, but Cruise’s feature really lacked it.

As with the rest of the cast, Brendan Fraser is much older now. It is possible, however, that Rachel Weisz’s return to The Mummy will result in more of a sequel rather than a reboot. Consider what happened with Blade Runner 2049. Despite being a sequel and a reboot, the movie retained plenty of the great elements from the classic. This upcoming Mummy reboot should follow that blueprint.
Fraser also expressed interest in another “transformation” movie after playing a 600-pound man in The Whale. He could train really hard to look like Rick O’Connell from the late 1990s, but hopefully, he’ll leave the stunts to others, so we won’t have to wait for Fraser movies for years. Rachel Weisz and Fraser working together on The Mummy would be great.

Rachel Weisz, Dwayne Johnson, and Brendan Fraser returning to The Mummy may mean that Imhotep (portrayed by Arnold Vosloo) will also return. In our opinion, Imhotep was a fantastic villain and he would certainly be welcomed by fans. Although he wasn’t the villain in the third movie, if there was a full reboot, it would be great to see him return.

Despite our exclusives about The Mummy reboot, we don’t know when production on this highly anticipated adventure will begin. The production date is likely to be somewhere in the spring range of 2023 once the casting announcements have been made official. In the summer of 2024, we could finally see Brenda Fraser, Dwayne Johnson, and Rachel Weisz return to grace the big screen once again for The Mummy reboot.
