During the 2023 Oscar announcement, the trailer for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid was released. It received an adverse reaction from the public, with over one million dislikes on YouTube.
The live-action trailer of The Little Mermaid shows several key characters, including Halle Bailey as Ariel, a mermaid princess and King Triton’s youngest daughter, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. The realistic depiction of Ariel was not well received by the public, resulting in over one million dislikes on YouTube.
After installing chrome extensions, you can still see dislikes on videos even though YouTube disabled the feature. Approximately 8.8 million people have watched the trailer, with 80% being dislikes, 1.1 million dislikes, and 220000 likes.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall, who has previously worked on Disney projects like Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides and Mary Poppins Returns. In his presentation, he stressed the importance of bringing innocence, wisdom, joy, soul, and heart to Ariel’s epic journey.
