Petition Launched to Reshoot New ‘Halloween Ends’ Following Fan Complaints

Universal and Blumhouse have been urged to reshoot Halloween Ends after some fans are unhappy with how the movie turned out.

The slasher sequel Halloween Ends pitted Michael Myers and Laurie Strode against one another, but many Halloween fans were unimpressed. Halloween Ends, directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie, was heavily criticized upon its release by filmgoers and critics. There are a lot of complaints on social media about the movie, which has a poor 39% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Halloween Ends appears to put Michael Myers in the background, which is a major complaint among fans.

At the end of Halloween Kills, he was teased as an unstoppable force; some viewers expected him to play a larger role. As Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) steps down, new character Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) takes her place. A traumatized Corey is basically the “new Michael” in the film, going so far as to steal the boogeyman’s mask in order to commit the majority of the movie’s murders.

Some fans are now calling for Halloween Ends to be remade from scratch, according to iHorror. On Change.org, there is a petition calling for a new version of the movie featuring more Michael Myers. Similarly, HBO had a popular petition when Game of Thrones’ controversial finale was reshot. In its description, Halloween Ends states:

“Halloween Ends was NOT a film that the Fans wanted! This was an Origins Story! The Corey Story! We deserve a movie worthy of Michael Myers & the Halloween Franchise! We love this Franchise whole heartily and this version of a Halloween Movie left us sad, mad, disappointed, and Infuriated. Please give us a movie that shows us what Halloween is really about. Our Apex Predator…. the King of Slasher Movies Michael Myers! This movie gave us a weak pathetic Michael who needed his mask to survive! This isn’t OUR MICHAEL MYERS! Our Killer is Strong, relentless, & unstoppable! Please right, this wrong! We beg of you !!!”

Halloween Ends may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it seems we’re going to say goodbye to Laurie Strode for good. The director of Halloween Ends feels confident that this film is our last goodbye to the character as depicted by JLC. Currently, there are no plans to develop any sequels.

“After the first one, we decided to do two more,” Green told Entertainment Weekly. I became the shepherd at a point in my life, so it was fun to inherit her character, take her on the journey I wanted to take her on and say goodbye to her. There is no doubt that Jamie playing Laurie in the universe is coming to an end. There will eventually be a new Laurie involved in something, there will be a twist, and the mythology will continue. This may be the last time we see Laurie Strode’s nervous smile and those fun enlightening attributes.”
