During an interview with Collider, director Josh Boone revealed that Kick-Ass is getting a reboot, and it will be out soon.
In two years, Kick-Ass will be rebooted. This will be a big change.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in Kick-Ass as the titular hero, a teenager named Dave Lizewski who takes on the superhero moniker, Kick-Ass. As the trio becomes involved in a fight with the criminal underworld, he meets his fellow vigilantes Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz).
Although Kick-Ass failed at the box office, it became incredibly popular on home video, developing something of a cult following.
It looks as though, now that the international rights have been licensed out for 10 to 13 years, they are about to return to Vaughn’s production company, Marv. This is a perfect opportunity for the Kick-Ass series to be rebooted.
But why reboot Kick-Ass? Why not make Kick-Ass 3?
“I think the clue is in the title,” Vaughn said. The Kick-Ass genre evolved into something new. It was all like, ‘Oh, you can’t make R-rated superheroes.’ Everyone wants to see PG-13 superheroes. It’s not possible. It’s impossible to do that. So, I came up with this crazy idea, and I thought, ‘Yes, that’ll work.’ As many people who love it will hate it, and there will be just as much controversy about it’.”
It has characters in it and will have them, he said, adding, “I’m not saying it won’t have them.” “I’m just saying it’s not what anyone could be imagining what it is. To play Kick-Ass, I’m going to need a really brave actor or actress, because it will scare them to death.”
