What comes to mind when you think of Pop-Tarts? Those weird sugary treats? Clearly, a Jerry Seinfeld blockbuster. The movie he co-wrote with Spike Feresten and Barry Marder is based on a popular joke of Seinfeld’s about discovering Pop-Tarts as a kid. As a kid, the back of my head blew off when they invented Pop-Tarts! He previously featured the bit during his last stand-up special, 2020’s “23 Hours to Kill.”, Back in 2012.
The breakfast-based project is set to begin production next spring.
The legendary comic has had a very successful relationship with Netflix since 2017, when he signed on with the streamer as part of a deal that brought his interview series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” to the service. Seinfeld also produced two original stand-up specials – “23 Hours to Kill” and “Jerry Before Seinfeld” – both of which were nominated for Emmys.
It wasn’t the end of the gold rush. After acquiring the global rights to the comedy series in 2020, Netflix will begin streaming all 180 episodes of “Seinfeld” this year. A five-year exclusivity agreement is expected. Fans of the show, buckle up.
