Dave Bautista has reignited his campaign to play Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War movie on Netflix.
It didn’t take long for Dave Bautista to join the campaign for a live-action Gears of War movie after Netflix announced its plans. Several years ago, Bautista personally pitched a Gears of War film to Warner Bros. for the role. A feature film adaptation of the popular video game seemed unlikely to land the former wrestler his dream role as Marcus Fenix.

In light of the big announcement that Netflix made recently, things are changing. In addition to an adult animated series, a live-action Gears of War film is currently in development. Although no cast members have yet been announced, many fans immediately suggested Bautista based on his history of vying for the role. Bautista has joined in the campaign by sharing the video promo of the time he appeared in the video game series, clearly showing how easy it would be for him to transition into a movie role.
Bautista said when posting the below video that he couldn’t make it any easier.

This promo is for Gears 5’s limited edition DLC. Fans wanted Bautista to play Marcus Fenix in a movie, so the DLC changed the Marcus Fenix character to carry Bautista’s voice and likeness. The video above shows Bautista filming a promo for the special content.
Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War, had endorsed Bautista for Marcus Fenix before Bautista re-entered the arena. In response to fan demands, Belszinski agreed to cast Bautista, though he also suggested Ryan Reynolds for the role of Baird and an unspecified Latino actor for Dom.
Netflix has yet to announce who will be cast, so fans will have to speculate until an official announcement is made. With an announcement timed to the game’s 15th anniversary, the streamer made it clear that the movie and animated series are finally happening. Netflix is clearly hoping these Gears of War projects will spawn the next major franchise if they succeed.
