It’s ruining our childhoods to watch the ‘darkest ever’ episode of Tom & Jerry, which aired to home viewers.
Cartoons like this are classics among children. There’s no denying the animated series has a special place in our hearts, from those belly-laughing slapstick moments between our favorite cat and mouse to wondering what their Nanny’s face looked like. It turns out there was one particularly sad episode in the much-loved show, which may have gone over the heads of innocent viewers – and reliving it as an adult is even worse.
In the episode titled “Blue Cat Blues” a cool cat named Toodles Galore fights for the affection of our beloved moggie Tom in the episode. Among the sweet gifts he gives her are a flower, a bottle of perfume, and a wagon, and he even tries to propose on one knee. His efforts are sadly futile, as Butch Cat shows up with a whole flower garland, a truckload of perfume, a swanky limo, and an engagement ring so bright you actually have to wear a welding mask to look at it.

Tom spends the rest of his days drinking himself to sleep with the biggest mountain of milk bottles we’ve ever seen, which is enough to tip him over the edge. Jerry saves him from literally spiraling down the drain, but the pair both end up wallowing in their own sadness when Tom sees Toodles and Butch have just gotten married, while Jerry spots toots on her honeymoon. The two of them end up sitting together on some train tracks and wallowing in their pain.

Many viewers wondered how they hadn’t realized how dark this episode was in their younger years when they commented on the TikTok video in shock. As one viewer wrote: “We [were] too young to notice,” another said: “I get you, buddy.” Someone else added, “We thought it was a joke, but they were teaching us a lesson.”.
One viewer noted: “They have been preparing us for the reality of life since childhood,” and another added: “Tom just wanted love. Jerry just wanted love.” In all honesty, we wish we hadn’t grown up.
