The Marvel Cinematic Universe-or, should we say, the multiverse-is about to grow much bigger, and the studio has delivered the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Additionally, the teaser was also used as the second post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home over the weekend. In addition, Marvel also released a poster showing a glimpse of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, whose presence (and actions in WandaVision) are clearly visible in the clip.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is the long-awaited sequel to the first Doctor Strange film that was released in 2016. The cast of Doctor Strange will include Benedict Cumberbatch as the good Doctor, Rachel McAdams as Strange’s love interest DPalmer, Benedict Wong as Supreme Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor returning as Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez debuting as America Chavez in the MCU.ez.

In the comics, Chavez can kick open star-shaped holes in reality with his bare feet. Seeing the glimpses of her in the trailer, it seems as if she will play a key role in helping Strange bounce back and forth between different realities as he attempts to right the wrongs that he caused by messing with the stability of space-time in his solo film by overusing the Time Stone, Avengers: Infinity War when he got snapped, and No Way Home when his spell went haywire.

The take-away here is that Strange is going to have a lot of cleaning up to do, and it looks like his irresponsible use of magic is going to have dire consequences including an evil version of himself, a character that some believe may be an ode to the Disney+ series What If…? The album also featured a darker variant of Strange.

Up top, you can watch the first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022, to be directed by Sam Raimi (the original trilogies for both Spider-Man and Evil Dead), and written by Michael Waldron (Loki) and Jade Halley Bartlett.
