Henry Cavill made his name in the DCEU by playing Superman in Man of Steel, but he has another superhero in mind he’d like to play when he inevitably joins the MCU. As it stands, Cavill’s future as Superman is uncertain, with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing a new movie and Michael B. Jordan developing his own series for HBO Max. Cavill may be left out of the DCEU’s future, but that would also allow him to work on a Marvel project.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill discussed his acting career and his potential future as Superman. Cavill still hopes to reprise that role, but nothing is currently in the works, and it’s possible this is the last time he plays that superhero. Cavill was asked to name a character he’d like to play in a Marvel project, and since he doesn’t want to choose someone already played by someone in the MCU, he choose a more interesting choice.

“I will never mention a Marvel character already played by someone else because they are all doing such a great job. However, I have seen various rumors about Captain Britain and a modernized version of that would be fun, kind of like how they modernized Captain America. I do love being British!”
As Captain Britain sounds, he represents the United Kingdom similarly to Captain America. The superhero was created by Alan Moore and Alan Davis, and first appeared in Captain Britain Weekly #1 in 1976. According to the comic book lore, Merlyn gives him superpowers to uphold the laws of Britain. While he has appeared in animated Marvel shows and video games, he has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Henry Cavill fans would love to see him play this role among many others. The search for the next James Bond won’t begin until next year at the earliest, following Craig’s retirement from that role with No Time to Die. Cavill also was asked once again about joining the James Bond franchise in his THR interview, and reiterated that he’s eager to have “that conversation” with Bond producers.

Henry Cavill is currently filming Enola Holmes 2 for Netflix with Millie Bobby Brown. It follows the success of the original movie, which starred Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes and Cavill as the celebrated detective. When the second season of The Witcher hits Netflix next month, Cavill will reprise his role as Geralt.
