Pixar and Disney unveil their first Lightyear trailer, revealing the first glimpse at the Chris Evans-starring origin story of Toy Story. In this animated movie directed by Knives Out star Matthew Goode, audiences will get a firsthand look at what’s being referred to as the “ultimate origin story” of Buzz Lightyear, who began his life as a Space Rangers in Star Command. The film is directed by veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who previously served as a co-director on the 2016 film Finding Dory.

It was a memorable first appearance of Buzz Lightyear in the original 1995 Toy Story with Tim Allen as the voice of the action figure who believed himself to be the real Space Ranger. There was a spin-off TV series produced following the success of the first two films, in which the character was portrayed as a real hero of Space Command, with Patrick Warburton taking over the role from Allen in the series. As it turns out, Lightyear has been in development since last year’s Disney Investor Day with an image of the character and the announcement of Evans as the titular hero, and fans now have an even bigger reason to get excited for the film.
