Mel Gibson has joined the cast of the John Wick prequel series The Continental in the role of Cormac. The Lionsgate Television produced three-night event will tell the origin story of the hotel-for-assassins, which has been heavily featured in Keanu Reeves’ film franchise. Winston Scott, played by Ian McShane, runs the hotel in the movies, and through the eyes of a young Winston, the early years of the hotel are revealed. Currently, there is no word on who will play the part, but a few details have been released about the plot.

The Continental Stars Colin Woodell As Young Winston The boom in big names appearing on small screens has led to many movie stars appearing on TV series, and despite making his debut on Australian drama The Sullivans in 1976, Mel Gibson has never been one to jump between the two like some of his peers. He quickly established a following in George Miller’s Mad Max and by the time he appeared in Lethal Weapon, the big screen was the only place to see him, as for a while the gulf between working for a TV network and a cinema was so wide the two never crossed.

There are no signs of people getting bored with Keanu Reeves’s dog loving assassin, since the fourth movie is currently shooting in countries across Europe and Japan. As for the John Wick saga, any TV event attached to the series, which has made over $600 million in its first three movies, is going to get a lot of attention. The Continental has always been a presence in the story, being a place that Wick was banned from after disobeying the rule that there cannot be any murder within its walls.
