There is a scene in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movie where Spider-Man Tobey Maguire shoots web out of his hands instead of using devices. With Spider-Man from Marvel Comics, Raimi made the first cinematic adventure of Spider-Man. The first-ever Spiderman trilogy with Tobey Maguire was made by him and he has become very famous for it.
In Spider-Man, the plot originates from Stan Lee Marvel Comics, focusing on a school-going student named Peter Parker who has a crush on a popular girl in his neighborhood named Mary Jane. During the trip of the science class, Tobey Maguire also playing the role of Peter Parker, got bitten by a genetically-engineered spider, giving him a lot of abilities.
In order to earn money, Peter participates in a wrestling match wherein he tests his abilities. In the middle of the night, his uncle Ben is murdered by a thief who has stolen the money from the match. Following this, he began to save people from thieves, muggers, etc.
With the help of the genetically engineered super spider bite, Peter Parker gained strength and the ability to become a superhero named Spider-Man. In Tobey Maguire’s version of Spiderman, the character is shooting webs out of his hands. While the Tom Holland version and the comics have shown Spiderman differently, that is not the case with the Tom Holland version.
It is interesting to note that during the development of the Spider-Man movie, Peter Parker is officially intended to use the mechanical web-shooters that are shown in the Comic Strip of Marvel.
Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire and the rest of the Spider-Man cast were shown in various Spider-Man footages testing the mechanical web-shooters, which were used to promote the Spider-Man video game. Sam Raimi decided at some point not to use web-shooter devices, but instead to give Peter the ability to make webs like a spider.
In Raimi’s mind, there are a few reasons why he decided not to use steel web-shooters. First, Peter got a lot of abilities because of the spider bite, including climbing on walls, enhanced reflexes, speed, and strength. It is Raimi’s opinion that the power to create webs is not given to Spider-Man in the comics, so he adds this power to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.
As a second point, Raimi thought it strange that Peter Parker, who was a genius but a student at the time, managed to get the resources to make the device that neither the government nor the private companies were able to create.
The Marvel Comics version of Spider-Man used the mechanical web-shooters in almost all of his adventures and battles in the original comics. These web-shooters were designed to be non-lethal, so that criminals can’t use them as weapons. Furthermore, it maintained the morality of Spider-Man, by fighting with the villains without killing them.
Peter Parker’s version of Spider-Man in the Spectacular Spider-Man had the ability to generate webs from his hands. In the process of meeting the queen, Peter was able to acquire the additional powers of the spider, which was a side effect of meeting her. Peter’s writs had similar features to the mechanical web-shooters that he used for his writs. In spite of that, it became a topic of controversy and it was swiped from the storyline of Spider-Man.
It is rumored that the concept of organic web shooters originated from the Spider-Man movie of James Cameron, which may have been used as a metaphor for puberty. Marvel Comics fans were unhappy with Stan Lee’s change in ideas. A website was created to prevent Spider-Man from using organic web-shooters.
Raimi’s idea was depicted excitingly through the movie and fulfilled his goal of giving significant importance to the natural evolution of Peter Parker, Spider-Man.
In 2002, a new series of Spider-Man was released, and Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man in his movie, The Amazing Spider-Man. During this premiere, the original idea of Stan Lee about the web-shooters was presented within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Amazing Spider-Man series has been praised by Marvel Comics fans all over the world.
Tom Holland, however, shares some different views on the topic of web-shooters. Currently, he states that the web shooter design in the Amazing Spider-Man series is unrealistic, where his version has been updated and modified by Tony Stark.
It is Holland who gives everyone a point of view and yet another aspect to consider. The authenticity of Spider-Man is not based on the design of the web shooters, but on the abilities and personality of Spider-Man.
