Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is caught by Doctor Octopus in new Spider-Man: No Way Home images. The old doctor known as Doc Ock, or Otto Octavius, is one of Spider-Man’s most enduring and fiercest foes. In the many comic adaptations of his life, he has been battling the Web Slinger numerous times in their decades-old rivalry. Alfred Molina reprises his iconic role as the doctor in Spider-Man: No Way Home, making it his first return to the big screen.

Almost 17 years ago, Molina performed his first role as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2, which starred Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s 2004 adaptation. As a follow-up to Raimi’s Spider-Man, Raimi’s third film has proved to be an exemplary superhero movie with critics praising its emotional weight and visual effects. Additionally, critics lauded Molina’s performance as Doc Ock, which would go on to be recognized as one of the best portrayals of a Spider-Man villain ever seen on the big screen. In Raimi’s movie, Dr. Octavius commands his sentient tentacles to destroy the nuclear reactor threatening New York City at the end, and in doing so, he ends up sacrificing himself. However, given the trailer for No Way Home, it seems that Doc Ock may not be gone for good.
