I find it hard to believe that Tom Holland almost wasn’t Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has now played Spider-Man in three different Spider-Man movies, and he has also played the character in other Spider-Man films as well. Despite that, he almost did not get the role.

Here is a list of 5 Actors Who Were Almost Cast as MCU Spider-Man.

In fact, there were over 1500 young actors auditioning for the role of Peter Parker. Due to the fact that this is the third reboot of the series and there are two big studios to satisfy, the casting process took a long time and was very difficult. Furthermore, a lot of young and well-known actors were considered for the role before it was ultimately given to a relatively unknown Dutch actor. In the MCU’s Spider-Man film, here is a list of actors who were almost cast as Spider-Man.

1: Timothée Chalamet

In spite of the fact that he is now one of the most popular actors in the world, when Timothée Chalamet was originally considered to play Peter Parker, he was still relatively unknown. Despite being shortlisted, he eventually did not get the chance to join the MCU. In spite of this, Holland recently said he would like to see Chalamet as a potential villain in future Spider-Man projects. Maybe he will swoop in and steal his Dune co-star Zendaya away from Peter.

2: Logan Lerman

Logan Lerman, along with Dylan O’Brien, was one of the most popular fan castings for Spider-Man on the Internet. Although many fans wished to see him in a Spidey suit, despite the fact that his name was tossed around the studio during the casting process, it appears that he did not actually audition for the role of Spider-Man. In an interview with GQ, which was published in 2020, Lerman stated that he was not interested in playing a superhero. It appears that he won’t be joining the MCU any time soon.

3: Asa Butterfield

A fellow English actor, Asa Butterfield, was one of the biggest Spider-Man candidates. The star of Sex Education wanted the part of Peter Parker so bad that he was crushed when he missed out on it. In a 2020 interview with Collider, he stated, “Every so often, there is a part that you really want to play, and it’s a script that you love, and you put all your heart and soul into it, but you don’t get it. There are times when it is tough and it is shit, but I often find that I get something even better out of it in the end. For Spider-Man, I did Sex Ed because I would not have been able to do both of them at the same time. Essentially, Tom did such a phenomenal job with Peter and he had a whole new way of portraying him, so I don’t think I should have attempted to replicate what he did.” For Black Panther, he added, “During that part, I didn’t want any of it to clash with the movie. As such, I believe that everything will work out in the end.” We think that’s a fantastic attitude to have, Asa!

4: Matthew Lintz

The Walking Dead alumnus was the youngest actor to screen test for the role of Peter Parker. It may have been a bit too early for him to join the MCU in 2015, but he will be joining in 2022 as he takes on the role of Bruno Carrelli in the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. We cannot wait for this upcoming young actor to finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

5: Charlie Rowe

Charles Rowe is our second Charlie to make this list, and he was one of the more popular choices among fans when the shortlist of screentested actors was released in 2015. In addition to being the same age as Holland, he is also a fellow Londoner and one of the few actors besides Holland to screen test twice. Although he was shocked about not getting the role, the Salvation actor took things in stride and congratulated his friend, tweeting, “Well done Tom Holland, glad to have him as a mate, glad for him.”. He then said, “I believe I could have made quite a good Spider-Man.” Maybe he could join as a villain one day, too.
